Meteorite | Mars Nakhlite | Hassi Messaoud 001 | 0,1-0,2 g
Product detailed description
The Hassi Messaoud 001 meteorite is a rare Martian meteorite of the nakhlite type. It was found on 11 March 2020 near the town of El Borma in the Ouargla region of Algeria. The total mass of the meteorite found is approximately only 75 grams.
Nakhlites are a rare type of Martian meteorite that formed from basaltic magma on the surface of Mars approximately more than 1 billion years ago. They are rich in the minerals olivine and augite. Physical characteristics of Hassi Messaoud 001 include a grey-brown colour and a slightly weathered, thin crust.
These rocks were probably ejected from Mars more than 10 million years ago as a result of an asteroid impact and are thought to have originated from large volcanic regions on Mars (Tharsis, Elysium).
Due to the limited amount of material found, Hassi Messaoud 001 is very rare and should not be missed in any collection.
We currently have several of these pieces weighing 0,1-0,2 grams, the picture is therefore illustrative.
The price of the meteorite includes a box and a certificate of authenticity.
