Meteorite | Djoua 001 | Achondrite | 5,37 g
Product detailed description
This atypical meteorite named Djoua 001 is an unusual achondrite, classified as an aubrite. The origin of aubrites is still shrouded in mystery and it is very likely that it is a piece of the planet Mercury. More will hopefully be confirmed by one of the 2 probes that are on their way to the planet Mercury, aboard the Ariane 5 rocket, which will arrive at the site in December 2025.
Aubrites are usually bright with a brownish crust with a strong breccia, bearing traces of the impact of another body. They consist mainly of large white crystals of iron-poor orthopyroxene and magnesium-rich or enstatite, with minor phases of olivine, metallic nickel and troilite, indicating magmatic formation under extreme conditions.
