Meteorite | Bechar 008 | Howardite | 104,8 g
Product detailed description
The Bechar 008 meteorite is a rare Howardite-type achondrite found in 2022 in the Bechar area of Algeria. It belongs to the HED group of meteorites (Howardites, Eucrites and Diogenites), which are thought to be fragments of the asteroid Vesta, one of the largest bodies in the main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.
The Bechar 008 meteorite is a polymict breccia, meaning that it contains fragments of various minerals and rocks. Among them are pyroxenes, garnets and other components. These fragments are connected by a fine-grained matrix composed of similar material. The meteorite also shows a moderate degree of shock metamorphism and a low degree of weathering, indicating that it has not been exposed to terrestrial influences for a long time. Its composition and structure provide valuable information on the geological history of Vesta and contribute to a better understanding of the evolution of planetary bodies in the solar system.
This piece weighs 104.8 grams. The total mass found is approximately 1700 grams.
